CAD Design Team Leader | Southampton

Location: Totton, Southampton Salary: £35,000 per annum Hours: 37.5 hours/week (Mon–Fri, 9:00 am – 5:30 pm) Reports To: Project Manager (Commercial)

About the Role

We are looking for a proactive CAD Design Team Leader to head our electrical design department in Totton. In this role, you will lead and develop a diverse team—from Trainees to Senior Designers—ensuring all electrical panel designs meet rigorous industry and company standards.

You will be the driving force behind the team’s productivity, managing workloads, delegating projects, and providing technical solutions that align with our customers’ needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Mentorship: Guide, support, and train the CAD design team; lead inductions and mentor staff to reach their full potential.

  • Workflow Management: Plan schedules, delegate tasks, and ensure all project deadlines are consistently met.

  • Quality Assurance: Uphold company procedures and participate in audits to ensure high-quality technical output.

  • Performance Management: Set team goals, assess performance, and provide constructive feedback.

  • Process Improvement: Proactively suggest enhancements for design processes and department efficiency.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

  • Management: Level 3 People Management Certificate (or equivalent).

  • Technical: Diploma or Certificate in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Design, or CAD Technology.

  • Experience: Proven track record managing a small team within a manufacturing environment.

  • Technical Proficiency: Ability to produce highly accurate, compliant technical drawings.

Desirable:

  • Level 5 People Management Certificate.

  • Knowledge of electrical/mechanical principles (specifically ENATS 50-18/50-19 or NGTS 2.19).

  • Experience using MS Project Management software.
