Salary: £54,952 – £64,738 + performance bonus & benefits

The Role

SSE Renewables operates Scotland’s largest hydro-electric fleet, with a 1,459MW portfolio that sits at the heart of the UK’s Net Zero future. As an Operations Systems Engineer, you will ensure the systems supporting our 24/7 centralized Hydro operations remain resilient, secure, and highly available.

You will act as a bridge between Project Delivery, Operational Technology (OT), IT, and Telecoms, applying your expertise in control systems to support the safe and efficient operation of our renewable assets.

Key Responsibilities

  • System Integration: Configure and commission changes to operational systems during hydro overhauls and site improvements.

  • Innovation & Security: Collaborate with OT/IT teams to design system enhancements that maximize operational value while meeting strict security and resilience standards.

  • Process Improvement: Develop and implement workflows to support emerging operational needs and increase efficiency.

  • Quality Assurance: Create and execute test scripts for critical systems to ensure seamless upgrades.

  • Technical Support: Act as first-line support for operational systems during office hours, assisting with fault resolution and troubleshooting.

About You

We are looking for a systematic problem-solver with a disciplined approach to technical challenges. Ideally, you will have:

  • Education: A degree in Engineering or IT, or substantial industry experience working with systems in an OT environment.

  • Technical Knowledge: Working knowledge of SCADA or control room systems. Familiarity with Grid Code requirements or trading is a plus.

  • Safety & Compliance: An understanding of Safe Systems of Work (SSoW) is highly desirable.

  • Analytical Skills: A proven ability to evaluate business requirements and implement innovative technical improvements.
