Salary: £69,105 – £81,406 + comprehensive benefits package

The Role

As the UK transition toward Net Zero, SSEN Distribution is leading the way by modernizing electrical networks to handle renewable energy, EVs, and heat pumps. Our System Planning team is at the cutting edge of this shift, utilizing digital twins, demand flexibility, and advanced analytics to build a smarter, more resilient grid.

In this role, you will be a key enabler of the energy transition, ensuring our network remains safe, reliable, and compliant while identifying the innovative investment programs needed for the future.

Key Accountabilities

  • Network Analysis: Conduct diverse power system studies and manage CAPEX investment programs to ensure full regulatory and technical compliance.

  • Capacity Planning: Analyze network capability to accommodate new demand and generation connections.

  • Project Collaboration: Work with design and delivery teams to ensure capital projects are executed efficiently and in a coordinated manner.

  • Innovation Integration: Specify and embed learnings from high-profile low-carbon innovation projects into day-to-day planning functions.

  • Standards Oversight: Support the planning standards workforce to ensure network developments align with the latest industry requirements.

About You

We are looking for a commercially aware engineer with a passion for innovation. You should have:

  • Education: A minimum HNC in Electrical Engineering with relevant industry experience, or an Engineering degree working toward Chartered status.

  • Technical Expertise: Fundamental knowledge of the design, operation, and protection of electricity networks and their interface with Transmission.

  • Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with industry codes and standards (e.g., P2/8, G99, G100, P28).

  • Software Skills: Proficiency in Power System Analysis software (such as PowerFactory or PSSE). Ability to use Python is a distinct advantage.
