The Role

As the Product Development Leader, you will be responsible for defining and delivering the future of Dowty’s world-leading propulsion systems. You will bridge the gap between long-term strategy and technical execution, taking products from technology maturation through to certification and market entry.

Leading a high-caliber team of technology specialists and project managers, you will drive innovation in sustainable aircraft powerplants while enhancing the business’s overall engineering capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Roadmapping: Collaborate across functions to evolve product and technology roadmaps that align with industry trends and customer needs.

  • Execution & Integration: Build and manage execution plans for demonstrator programs and new product introductions, ensuring tight alignment with the wider program management team.

  • Team Leadership: Recruit, mentor, and develop a high-performing team, focusing on continuous improvement and career growth.

  • Technical Excellence: Work closely with technical authorities and discipline leaders to ensure resource availability and technical best practices are met.

  • Operational Management: Oversee budgeting, financial tracking, and resource planning.

  • Lean Leadership: Apply Lean principles and daily management tools to optimize team workflows and resolve complex business issues.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Expertise: Significant experience in Engineering, Technology, or Functional Management (ideally at a level comparable to a Master’s degree).

  • Industry Background: Proven track record in aerospace product development, ideally within a UKCAA/EASA Part-21 Design Organisation.

  • Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with complex systems (mechanical, electronic, or hydro-mechanical controls) is highly advantageous.

  • Leadership: Strong project management skills with a demonstrated ability to lead multi-faceted programs and influence customer relationships.
