The Role & Responsibilities

As a Custodian, you will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and overall upkeep of school facilities. Your work directly impacts the daily experiences of students and staff, helping to create a positive learning atmosphere.

Core Duties:

Maintain cleanliness of classrooms, offices, and common areas: Ensure spaces are free from dust, litter, and spills, creating a hygienic and comfortable learning environment.
Floor care: Sweep, mop, vacuum, and polish floors to maintain a safe and polished appearance for hallways and classrooms.
Restroom sanitation: Clean, disinfect, and restock supplies in restrooms to ensure a safe and hygienic experience for all.
Waste management: Collect, separate, and properly dispose of waste and recyclables in accordance with environmental guidelines.
Minor maintenance tasks: Perform small repairs and report larger issues to the maintenance department, contributing to the smooth functioning of facilities.
Support school events: Assist with setup and cleanup for assemblies, meetings, and extracurricular activities, ensuring events run seamlessly.
Safety checks: Monitor facilities for safety hazards, such as wet floors or broken fixtures, and take prompt action to prevent accidents.

Qualifications

While formal education is not the primary requirement, the role calls for practical skills and a proactive attitude.

Experience in custodial or maintenance work: Prior work in schools, offices, or large facilities is an advantage, ensuring familiarity with cleaning techniques and safety practices.
Knowledge of cleaning materials and equipment: Familiarity with safe handling of chemicals, cleaning tools, and machinery such as buffers or vacuums.
Attention to detail: Consistently ensuring that classrooms, restrooms, and common spaces meet the district’s cleanliness standards.
Reliability and punctuality: Demonstrating a strong work ethic by showing up consistently and completing assigned tasks on time.
Teamwork and communication skills: Collaborating with staff and supervisors to address immediate needs or emerging facility concerns.
