Associate Manager – Internal Audit
Role Overview
The job holder is responsible for planning, executing, and reporting risk-based operational audits across the Bank’s operations. This role involves conducting end-to-end audit engagements as part of a collaborative team to ensure absolute compliance with internal policies, as well as all applicable regulatory and legal requirements.
The Job (Key Responsibilities)
Audit Planning & Framework Alignment

Framework Adherence: Ensure all audit engagements are conducted strictly in accordance with the Internal Audit Framework, including approved charters, policies, guidelines, and procedures of the Bank and its subsidiaries.

Annual Audit Plan Support: Support the development of the annual audit plan, ensuring it is risk-based, aligned with CBSL supervisory expectations, and submitted to the Board Audit Committee for formal approval.

Risk Assessment Coverage: Contribute to the preparation of the annual risk-based operational audit plan, ensuring comprehensive coverage of high-risk areas identified through the Bank’s risk assessment process.
Governance & Regulatory Compliance

Functional Independence: Maintain full functional independence in line with CBSL Corporate Governance Directions and uphold the total objectivity of the internal audit function.

Compliance Assessments: Independently assess compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, including Banking legislation, CBSL Directions, Foreign Exchange regulations, and relevant internal and external circulars and industry best practices.

Policy & Process Review: Review policies and guidelines periodically in line with regulatory requirements and bank standards; recommend enhancements to policies, systems, and processes to address evolving business and risk environments.
Audit Execution & Documentation

Audit Programs: Prepare audit planning documents and detailed audit programs in line with the approved audit methodology for Manager review.

Fieldwork & Working Papers: Perform audit fieldwork, obtaining sufficient and appropriate audit evidence, and maintain robust, well-documented working papers to support audit conclusions.

Quality Assurance: Ensure consistent adherence to internal audit methodology, professional standards, and quality requirements throughout the entire audit lifecycle.
Remediation & External Audit Support

External Audit Coordination: Support the external audit process in meeting statutory and regulatory obligations, including responding to audit queries, providing management representations where required, and coordinating responses to audit findings, while contributing to the organization’s combined assurance framework and maintaining professional independence.

Follow-up & Monitoring: Monitor and follow up on the implementation of audit findings to ensure timely, effective, and sustainable remediation.

Issue Tracking: Maintain and update the audit issue tracking system, including the preparation of periodic follow-up reports and status dashboards.
The Person (Qualifications & Competencies)
Experience & Professional Credentials

Qualifications: Possess a part qualification in a Banking or Finance discipline; a dedicated Internal Audit qualification will be considered an added advantage.

Banking Experience: Possess around 07 years of banking experience, which must include at least 05 years of direct Audit experience within a licensed bank or financial institution in Sri Lanka.

Technical Value-Add: Knowledge and experience in Treasury Audits and/or Data Analytics (including SQL Queries) will be considered an added advantage.
