Clinical Fellow / Clinical Development Fellow
NHS Highland | Lorn & Islands Hospital, Oban Salary: £45,504 – £60,199 per annum (pro rata) Duration: Fixed-term (6–12 months), starting August 2026 Hours: 40 hours per week + applicable banding
The Opportunity
NHS Highland is seeking a motivated Clinical Fellow to join the General Medicine and Surgery team at Lorn & Islands Hospital in Oban. This is an exceptional opportunity to gain broad experience in a Rural General Hospital setting, managing acute medical, surgical, and A&E presentations.
While this post does not attract formal training recognition from the Postgraduate Dean, you will work alongside junior doctors in training and receive equivalent clinical experience and support.
The Role
Working closely with a multidisciplinary team of Consultant Physicians, Surgeons, Anaesthetists, and Rural Emergency Physicians, your responsibilities will include:

Acute Care: Managing various presentations across medicine, surgery, and emergency departments.

Inpatient Management: Supporting the medical ward, which includes a 4-bedded High Dependency Area (HDU).

Specialized Exposure: Potential opportunities to participate in outpatient clinics and interface with the 24/7 Radiology (CT) service.

Professional Development: Access to an active hospital educational program and a library managed by a full-time librarian.
Requirements

Registration: Full GMC registration with a valid license to practice.

Skills: Strong clinical foundation in general medicine or surgery.

Language: Applications from Gaelic speakers are warmly welcomed.
