Company: SSEN Transmission (SSE Group) Location: Scotland (Perth, Glasgow, Aberdeen, or Inverness) – 50% Office-Based Salary: £78,400 – £117,600 + Car/Allowance + Performance Bonus Pattern: Permanent | Full-Time (Part-time & Flexible options available)


The Role

Join SSEN Transmission in a pivotal leadership capacity as we deliver a monumental £30bn investment programme. As the Lead Principal Engineer for Offshore Cables, you will be the technical authority shaping the future of cable engineering across some of the UK’s most complex transmission projects.

You will lead the design development and implementation of cable systems across a diverse offshore portfolio, ensuring technical consistency, safety, and innovation as we accelerate toward a Net Zero future.

Your Responsibilities

  • Technical Leadership: Direct all cable engineering initiatives within the offshore directorate, ensuring solutions align with regulatory, safety, and business standards.

  • Team Mentorship: Nurture and guide a team of specialist Cable and Subsea engineers, fostering an inclusive culture and supporting long-term career growth.

  • Strategic Escalation: Act as the primary point of contact for complex design issues, ensuring resolutions meet SSEN standards and statutory requirements (CDM/ESQCR).

  • Innovation & Strategy: Drive continuous improvement by engaging with technology providers and industry forums to integrate emerging solutions into our future project pipeline.

  • Collaboration: Work across the business and supply chain to develop fit-for-purpose standards and raise the profile of SSE’s offshore delivery achievements.

Requirements

  • Experience: A proven track record of delivering complex onshore and offshore engineering projects and leading high-performing teams.

  • Technical Depth: Extensive knowledge of cable design, installation engineering, and industry standards (including CDM and ESQCR).

  • Qualifications: Degree in a relevant engineering discipline; Chartered Engineer (CEng) status is preferred.

  • Leadership Skills: Exceptional communication skills with the ability to simplify complex technical concepts for diverse stakeholders and build trust across the supply chain.
