Role Overview

Pertemps West Bromwich is seeking a skilled Mechanical Fitter to join a well-established manufacturing business in Oldbury. This is a hands-on role for a proactive engineer capable of working independently to provide high-quality maintenance support across a busy industrial site. Your primary goal will be to ensure equipment efficiency while minimizing downtime through expert mechanical service.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintenance & Repair: Execute safe, cost-effective planned and reactive maintenance.

• Troubleshooting: Diagnose and repair mechanical faults and respond rapidly to breakdowns.

• Installation: Install and commission new mechanical equipment.

• Technical Repairs: Maintain and overhaul pumps, valves, and gearboxes.

• Site Support: Assist onsite contractors and participate in an out-of-hours call-out rota.

Skills & Experience Required

• Qualifications: Level 3 Mechanical qualification or equivalent, having completed a full apprenticeship.

• Expertise: Proven experience in industrial or heavy plant maintenance.

• Technical Skills: Strong fault-finding abilities; experience with pipefitting and welding is highly preferred.

• Attributes: Ability to take full ownership of tasks and work effectively without constant supervision.

Working Hours

• Schedule: Monday to Thursday (07:45 – 16:00) and Friday (07:45 – 15:30).

• Total Hours: 37 hours per week.
