Job Role

The selected candidate will be responsible for assisting in the prompt, effective, and fair settlement of all valid corporate claims in accordance with the established delegation of authority and core insurance principles. This role focuses on providing a speedy, efficient customer experience while maintaining proper, proactive follow-up on all pending claims at Union Assurance.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Claims Administration: Manage all administrative aspects of claims processing, ensuring the collection of accurate information and supporting documentation to enable the achievement of business goals.

  • Initial Screening: Process the initial screening of all structured claims and recommend formal decisions to the claims support team.

  • SLA Management: Assist the department in achieving stipulated Service Level Agreements (SLAs) through the timely processing of structured claims.

  • Payment Processing: Guarantee accuracy during both the initial assessment phase and the final payment processing of structured claims.

  • Progress Tracking: Continually monitor and track the progress of ongoing claims.

  • Audit & Records Governance: Maintain meticulously organized records, including active working files and correspondence, for clear reference and future audit purposes.

  • Inquiry Resolution: Respond to internal customer inquiries and resolve issues efficiently in line with company guidelines and set SLAs.

  • Risk Mitigation: Flag and escalate potentially fraudulent claims to higher authorities in a timely manner.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Adhere strictly to local legal requirements, industry regulations, and the defined customer quality standards of Union Assurance.

  • Process Optimization: Contribute to and drive continuous workflow improvements while assisting in computing core claim ratios.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Industry Experience: A minimum of 3–5 years of hands-on experience within the Life Insurance industry. Direct experience in claims handling is highly advantageous.

  • Professional Credentials: CIP – SLII or a partial/full qualification in Dip-CII / AIII is essential.

  • Market Intelligence: Good understanding and up-to-date knowledge of competitor products, market practices, trends, and developments within the Sri Lankan life insurance sector.

  • Regulatory Framework: A solid foundational understanding of the regulatory framework governing the local insurance industry.

  • Medical & Financial Acumen: Very good knowledge of medical and financial claims, diseases, medical procedures, and their direct impact on longevity and disability, alongside the interpretation of diagnostic medical tests.

  • Reinsurance Knowledge: A functional understanding of standard reinsurance arrangements.

  • Technical & Soft Skills: * Broad proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

    • Proven ability to multi-task, work under pressure, and operate efficiently with minimal supervision.

    • A self-motivated mindset paired with strong team player capabilities.
