Shift Executive – Electrical & Electronic

Ceylon Cold Stores PLC (CCS), the manufacturer of Elephant House Soft Drinks and Ice Creams, is a leading consumer food company in Sri Lanka. CCS is a prominent subsidiary of John Keells Holdings PLC (JKH).

Role Purpose

The primary purpose of this role is to take charge of preventive maintenance and rapidly minimize electrical breakdowns across all production and utility operations at the Soft Drinks and Ice Cream factories. Operating within statutory and organizational guidelines, the successful candidate will ensure that manufacturing processes carry on smoothly with zero disruptions.

Key Responsibilities

Breakdown Management & Troubleshooting

Shift Ownership: Take full operational responsibility for all electrical and automation systems during the assigned shift.
Minimize Downtime: Guarantee the uninterrupted operation of production lines by reducing electrical and automation-related downtime.
Advanced Fault-Finding: Rapidly attend to machine breakdowns and perform advanced fault-finding on Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), and complex control systems.

Preventive Maintenance & Reliability

Scheduled Maintenance: Execute routine preventive and predictive maintenance tasks exactly as scheduled.
Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Conduct systematic Root Cause Analysis for major or repetitive technical breakdowns.
Failure Analysis: Analyze recurring technical failures and implement sustainable corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).

Inventory & Operational Support

Spare Parts Availability: Monitor and ensure the availability of critical electrical and electronic spare parts throughout the shift.
Store Requisitions: Raise necessary material requisitions and coordinate directly with the stores team for timely parts replenishment.
Project & System Support: Assist with ongoing operational improvement initiatives, capital expenditure (CapEx) projects, and the routine administration of the Human Capital Management system.
Cross-Functional Teamwork: Coordinate closely with mechanical and production teams to ensure fast, efficient troubleshooting.
Documentation: Maintain meticulous and accurate maintenance logs, breakdown data, and shift records.

Person Specifications

Qualifications & Experience

Education: A Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institutional body.
Experience: 2 to 3 years of hands-on technical experience operating within a fast-paced manufacturing environment (exposure to the food and beverage industry is preferred).

Technical Skills

Robust, advanced troubleshooting capabilities in PLC systems.
Strong working experience with VFDs, soft starters, sensors, and diverse industrial instrumentation.
Sound knowledge of Motor Control Center (MCC) panels, motor control loops, and localized power distribution systems.
Proven ability to fluently read, interpret, and trace industrial electrical drawings and control schematics.
Deep understanding of systematic preventive maintenance frameworks.
Practical familiarity with food safety and quality management standards (GMP, HACCP).

Soft Skills & Core Traits

Exceptional analytical, diagnostic, and problem-solving capabilities.
High degree of self-initiation with the confidence to make independent technical decisions on the floor.
Proven ability to work under pressure and adapt to a demanding, shift-based rotational work schedule.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and collaborative teamwork skills.
