The Role & Responsibilities
- Deliver conversational English lessons online
You will lead small-group and one-on-one virtual sessions, using real-world topics to encourage spontaneous speaking. Expect to tailor topics to students’ goals—whether travel, work, or academic readiness. - Design customized lesson plans
Instead of one-size-fits-all materials, you’ll assess each learner’s level and interests to craft sessions that balance pronunciation practice, vocabulary building, and confidence-building conversation. - Assess progress and provide feedback
You’ll use both formative feedback during sessions and periodic progress reports, helping learners stay motivated by highlighting growth in fluency and comprehension. - Collaborate with the tutor network
UrbanPro fosters peer learning: you’ll occasionally co-create materials with other tutors and share best practices in monthly team meetings to continually elevate tutoring quality. - Contribute to curriculum development
When you notice recurring learner needs—such as common pronunciation challenges—you’ll propose tweaks or additions to the shared curriculum to strengthen the program’s effectiveness.
Qualifications
- Strong spoken English proficiency
Preferably with certification (e.g. TEFL, CELTA, or equivalent) or demonstrable fluency. The idea is to ensure clarity and authenticity in your teaching voice. - Experience teaching conversation-oriented classes
Even if you’ve taught in informal settings, showing that you’ve helped learners speak with confidence will set you apart. The role emphasizes spoken interaction over grammar drills. - Comfort with online teaching platforms
Familiarity with video-conferencing tools like Zoom or Google Meet, and a willingness to learn interactive whiteboards or digital flashcards—prior experience helps but enthusiasm matters more. - Cultural empathy and adaptability
You’ll engage with diverse adult learners—from different professional backgrounds and learning paces. Sensitivity to those differences enhances trust and learning outcomes. - Reliable internet and quiet teaching space
